Sage Saves Jack and Sally’s Christmas

Posted by sarajschmidt on September 24, 2009

jackA few weeks ago I mentioned Sage’s favorite bedtime story, which she calls “Christmas Eve,” and a few people expressed interest in it. I thought I’d type it out to share it with you, though it does typically change a little every night.

We usually make up at least one new story that revolves around something we did that day during naptime–but this has become a bedtime standard!

Sage Saves Jack and Sally’s Christmas

Sara: It was Christmas Eve, and Jack and Sally had just finished putting up the most beautiful Christmas Tree.

Sage: It had owls and snowflakes…

Sara: And glowing pumpkins, twinkle lights, tiny bats that flew in circles…

(This is the part that varies every night, depending on what we want on the tree. It can range from mud to puppies to doughnuts to whatever we feel like, and can go on for ten minutes.)

Sara: But something was missing.

Sage: “Is it the tinsel?” asked Sally.

Sara: “No, no, the tinsel’s right there,” said Jack.

Sage: “Is it–Is it the bouncy balls?”

Sara: “Nope, there’ right there, see?” said Jack. They just couldn’t figure out what it was. Just then, there was a knock at the door. It was their friend–

Sage: Sage!

Sara: “Sage! Thank goodness you’re here,” said Sally. “We just finished putting up our Christmas tree.”

“It’s beautiful,” said Sage. “You two did a great job!”

“But something’s missing,” said Jack. “And we can’t figure out what it is.”

“Hmm,” said Sage. “I will look and see if I can find it.”

Bot of us, together: She looked left, then right, up, then down–and that’s when she saw it.

(We turn our heads in these directions as we say them.)

Sage: I know! You’re missing the star!

Sara: “You’re right!” said Jack.

“But where are we going to find a star on Christmas Eve?” asked Sally.

Sage: “I know. I will pull one out of the sky.”

Sara: “Great idea!” said Jack. So they lifted Sage up into the sky…

Sage: And I pulled out the most beautiful, sparkling star, and put it on top of the tree. “There,” I said. “It’s a perfect tree.”
